I was going to use today to post my interview with Holly Schindler, but something happened that pushed it tomorrow. This is also a downer, serious post. I promise I'll be happy tomorrow.
A boy in my school committed suicide. He went missing on Thursday, his body showed up yesterday, and I was appalled by the reaction in school today.
I wasn't expecting a mass mourning.
I also wasn't expecting jokes about it.
I don't find it funny.
I know that hardly anyone reading this knows the boy, and I'm not going to put his full name to be googled. It was a gunshot wound, if that satisfies your curiousity. No, that's not being mean. That's just . . . yeah. Well. For someone who wants to be an author, I'm having issues finding words.
I also know that suicide is considered cowardly and weak. But I used to be friends with him. That was a while ago, before he fell into bad stuff. I haven't talked to him in over a year, but it doesn't matter. People shouldn't have joked. When something likes this happens, more people should be sad. Maybe it's just my opinion, but . . .
Ugh. I don't know. It just seems like . . . The feeling of desperation that leads someone to that point? No one--no one--deserves to feel that.
So. In respect, I'm posting this.
Logan, I'm so sorry.
Rest in peace.

I'm so sorry. I can't believe anyone would make a joke about that. A boy I knew did that too, just after high school. It was so tragic. It saddens me that someone could be in so much pain they'd take such a drastic action. It can never be that bad--never.
Take care,
Hilary
Hillary: It is really terrible... I can't imagine feeling that horrible.
However, thanks so much for that comment. I've actually been following your blog for a while--I never thought you'd look at mine.
My condolences, Sam. This is a rough time for everyone who knew him...his family will be in my thoughts.
Thank you very much...it means a lot.
I didn't even really know him, but people really upset me today. For example: There was a group of kids next to my table at lunch today, and they were literally laughing at a couple of girls who were crying. Laughing. They were saying that everyone is being too dramatic. Can you believe that? Ugh, sometimes I just don't... ugh.
Rest in peace, Logan. We'll miss you.
Maggie: I know. It was disgusting. People in my eighth hour were joking about how they got to skip math now if they pretended to be sad. I know that people say mean stuff about kids, and normally, I so don't agree. But the insensitive part? Yeah, they've got that down.
That's terrible. Really sad.
You should go see To Save A Life if it comes out near you sometime. It's about this very thing.

It actually comes out tomorrow here. I just checked out the website. Yeah. It looks familiar. I don't think I'll be able to sit through it without crying incessently just yet, though, lol.
I just didn't really think it could happen in a small town, to someone I knew. Small minded, yes, I know. But it really does seem horribly unreal.
That is such terrible sad news and I'm sorry your classmates are responding the way they did. My thoughts are with his family and if you need anything, let me know.
Thanks, everyone. It really means a lot. I'm actually okay; I was just really disgusted by everyone's reactions. This is has renewed my faith in humanity, though, I have to say. :)
Ah... glad I'm not the only sensitive one out there. Honestly, though, my school is pretty amazing in terms of the whole community feel. Every year there has been at least one death at the school for some reason or another, but no one talks trash about them and the sidewalks are covered with chalk messages to the deceased like 'I love you!' 'you're amazing' 'rest in peace with chocolate!' the day afterwards. I think all the pastors come talk to the family, too... it's a really loving atmosphere...
