Zomg Harry Potter

Y'all, take a minute. Breathe deep. Now. Get ready for a freaking ton of awesome.
Because guess what?
It's almost November.
And that, my dears, means one thing.
No. Not Thanksgiving. This is better than turkey.
No -- not Nanowrite. Really, guys?
I'm talking something EPIC BEYOND WORDS.
Yeah. You got it.
Harry Potter.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows PosterEmma Watson as Hermione GrangerRupert Grint as Ron Weasley
Dudes. I could paper every inch of my walls with these. Not even joking. They would go right over my Japanese fans and pictures of my friends and all the other junk I've nailed up. Just google the posters. There's TONS.
Midnight release, anyone?
After all -- who really needs public American school? Hogwarts is totally better.

I Am Number Four movie

No. I haven't read the book. I've had two people who's book taste I generally trust that kind of ruined it for me. -youknowwhoyouare-
But.
I probably will read it. Why? Because I need to see the movie and I don't like watching book movies if I haven't read their book.  And the reasons why I need to see the movie? Well.

Reason Number One: I like YA books to movie. I support this. -shrugs-

Reason Number Two:
I am an unashamed Gleek. Seriously. I love it. So the fact that Dianna Agron is in the movie can't hurt.

Reason Number Three:

I know nothing about his acting capabilities, but Alex Pettyfer is very pretty.
I can't get the video to upload, but here is the trailer.
What say you? Will you be there?

Sapphique, by Catherine Fisher

See? I told you! I told you I would do a book review!
Anyway. Sapphique is the sequel to Incarceron, so this might not be that helpful if you haven't read the first. And while I will try and keep this spoiler free, it's hard to talk about the second without brushing over parts of the first. (The Amazon description, coming up, ruins it.)
However. Because Sarah (AKA GreenBeanTeenQueen) (AKA Most Awesome Fantabulous Adult-like Person That I Know) (Adult-like being a compliment as is in she doesn't treat me like an idjit because I'm 16) is fantabulous and awesome, she got an advanced copy of Sapphique and I promised a review, like, a week ago.
(Please don't hate me. I'm sorry. Very sorry. So sorry!)
So, before I can further stick my cyber foot into my cyber mouth, I'm getting on with the review. Continuing now.

Sapphique, By Catherine Fisher
Release Date in United States: December 28, 2010
(It's already out in the UK)

Amazon description: (MILD SPOILERS FOR END OF INCARCERON)
Finn has escaped from the terrible living Prison of Incarceron, but its memory torments him, because his brother Keiro is still inside. Outside, Claudia insists he must be king, but Finn doubts even his own identity. Is he the lost prince Giles? Or are his memories no more than another construct of his imprisonment? And can you be free if your friends are still captive? Can you be free if your world is frozen in time? Can you be free if you don't even know who you are? Inside Incarceron, has the crazy sorcerer Rix really found the Glove of Sapphique, the only man the Prison ever loved. Sapphique, whose image fires Incarceron with the desire to escape its own nature. If Keiro steals the glove, will he bring destruction to the world? Inside. Outside. All seeking freedom. Like Sapphique.

What I have to say (because, dude, that's so obviously important)
Catherine Fisher's world is intriguing. She's got it chocked full of details and lots of steampunkish elements that had me captivated the entire way through; despite being heavy on that, though, she never dragged when telling the story. Sapphique, actually, moved much faster than Incareceron, and while I found myself skimming large blocks of text in the first book, I didn't have the same problem with the second.
Incarceron, the prison, is starting to change. The outside world's illusions are starting to fade. Outside, Claudia, the daughter of Incarceron's Warden, is looking for a way to try and save both worlds. Finn, the presumed prince of the outside, has to face charges of being an imposter, even though he himself isn't quite sure. The two are searching for a way to save their own lives, but they aren't just facing their own deaths; they're looking at the destruction of their world. Inside of the Prison, Keiro, Finn's 'brother' (comrade, fellow soldier, best friend) joins up with Attia, a former slave, and they're desperately searching for a way out. Keiro, to me, was probably the most interesting character; he's kind of insane and kind of violent and to me that makes him kind of sort of awesome. (Shut up. I like violent warrior guys with issues. Don't mock me.
 -sticks out tongue-)
Anywaaaay.
There's a lot going on in the book, but it all ties together extremely well. By the end, I was excited to continue, turning pages with ninja speed, and admiring how the threads all started to join. The plot is complex and could have easily, very easily, become somewhat cliche, but Ms. Fisher obviously knew what she was doing, because she skirts around ever crossing the line.
Her writing is insanely beautiful, overflowing with awesome descriptions of sought after stars and dangerous dreams, vicious monsters and crumbling ruins, reminding me of old fashioned fantasy novels but mixing in a more modern style of steampunk as she tells us about half human, half metal creatures.
And all of that is enough to make this a great book.
However.
And this was a big however for me,
Sapphique is the end.
Now, normally, I don't like posting negative things about books, but that's generally because I don't believe in bashing people's work. This isn't bashing the work; this is me disagreeing with the end.
It's got a great ending, don't get me wrong. But throughout the entire book, I was kind of feeling like Sapphique was a great second part of a trilogy. Very rarely will you find me advocating for tons of books in a series, but I felt like Ms. Fisher's world was definately up to another book. I had a glowing review ready, and then I checked out her website; there's not another book.

This wouldn't really be that big of an issue, but for two reasons. One, there  are a lot of things left open in the end of the novel. I like open ended stories, but it really felt as if she was gearing up for a third book. That, I think, is mostly my problem; I can't guarantee you will feel the same way. However, there is a second reason that the lack of another book is bugging me; I feel like we aren't getting what we want from the characters.

For instance, there's a marriage being bandied about. I won't tell you much more than that, but by the end of the book, it's still clear that the marriage is planned. But the characters aren't even thinking about it. I commend Fisher for being able to write such a great book without a romance, BUT I think that characters need to at least be worried about the marriage, or considering it, or something more than they do. It made them less real to me; what teenager wouldn't be thinking about their future spouse, worrying, wondering if it's going to work, if they'll be able to do good things together? For me, it fell flat.

The writing of this book is great, and the plot is incredible. Some of the characters just came off a tad . . . empty at times, which is why I wanted a third book. I feel like that really could have solidified them. I would still recommend the book; it's definitely worth the read. Plus, I'm kind of, um, character obsessed.

Oh!
AND.
There's a movie being optioned for Incarceron, something that I'm kind of excited about. The world Fisher creates is beautiful and haunting and awesome and definitely unique, and I would love to see it on the big screen.

And that concludes my review.
I'm feeling somewhat boring.
-ponders-
It would probably be inappropriate to post a picture of a cute boy, wouldn't it?
Hmm. Next time.

(Oh, on a random note, I feel the need to share this horror with you: I've been looking around the web for stuff on the Hunger Games movie, and for some reason, I've seen like five people who want Justin Bieber as Peeta. Nothing against Justin, but I do not see him as Peeta. Please, no. I am traumatized by that idea. Please be traumatized with me.
...
Or, um, I guess you could tell me I'm stupid and Justin would be a great warrior sexy baker guy. If you really want to try and go there.)

More later.

Five Reasons to Watch Eclipse

Okay, so the internet has decided to be my life long enemy. My family lost our internet acess this past week (insert a long suffering look) and so I haven't been able to update. Sorry...Blame the Internet Gods of Evil.
However. I did get to go see the latest Twilight movie this past week. I actually wasn't expecting much. See, I went to go watch Twilight because I was excited. I went to New Moon because I liked the book. But neither movie was all that fantabulous, at least in my opinion, especially since the books were so good.
Eclipse, though? It was wonderful. There are many lovely reasons for that, but I can give you at least five goods one.
Reason Number One:

Reason Number Two:

Reason Number Three:

(He is really freaking cute in the movie)

Reason Number Four:

Reason Number Five:

Robert-Pattinson-robert-pattinson-5.jpg image by Robtwilight09

Just so you know, that is reason enough for me. Possibly reason enough to go see it again.
(Boy do NOT look like that in small town Missouri high school. Just saying.)
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll post a book review when my house decides that it'll deign to have internet wired again. I hope the American's had a good 4 of July without blowing anyone you liked to smithereens.
More later.

Construction Notice

So, as much as I love the spring background, it was hard to read. So, I'm trying to find a new one. That's proving kind of difficult, so here it is; a construction notice. The blog will might be changing some the next few days. Hey, if you see something you like, go ahead and tell me. I'm just going for readability.
Hmm.
Well, that's a lame post. So, let's see. What to talk about...
Nope. I got nothing. State wide testing just finished, and my brain is fried. My sister, a friend and I just got back from watching the dragon movie of epic awesomeness for the second time--
http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/9600000/Hiccup-Toothless-how-to-train-your-dragon-9626254-1920-816.jpg
(The Last Song was way too late, otherwise we would have gone and saw that.)http://images.dailyradar.com/media/uploads/showhype/story_large/2009/05/15/liam_hensworth.jpg
Oh, wait, that's not a picture of the movie. That's just a picture of Liam Hensworth. My bad.
http://www.hbg-international.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/Website%20covers/Movie%20Tie%20In/The%20Last%20Song%20MTI_Final.jpg
...No offense, Miley, but I liked it better when you weren't there.
On the book front, there's this;
http://bookends.booklistonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/summer-i-turned.jpg
I can't remember if I blogged about it or not. Hmm. Well, if I haven't, I would like to take this moment to say how much I loved it. It was sweet and funny and fluffy, and sometimes you just need a sweet, funny, fluffy book. I think I cried at one point, too. Basically, it's like a detox in a book.
-Nods-
I really, really recommend this one.
What else...
Well, on last week's Gossip Girl....

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/news/00029382.jpg

....
No. I won't subject you to my shallow television habits.
I'm going to take this time to bow out and go read my latest acquisition--

http://www.trashionista.com/runaway.jpg
Thank goodness for book loving mothers. :P

(And, as a side note, Gossip Girl really did tick me off last week. I mean, come on. Seriously?)

Dragons, dragons, dragons!

Now, I deeply considered making this a philisophical post about the icons of fantasy and why they've upheld the years and all the good stuff.
However, I did a dull version of philosophy in the form Miley Cyrus earlier this week, so I think I'm just going to talk about dragons.
Oh, and how much I want one.
(Anyone who knows me personally: You always ask what I want for my birthday, right? And I tell you I want Alex Pettyfer and you whine about how kidnapping is a crime and all that?)

...Sigh....British boys are cute....
But I do agree. Kidnapping is bad. So, here we are. A dragon would be a perfectly acceptable substitution.

http://images2.fanpop.com/image/quiz/338000/338883_1262164185247_312_327.jpg
*Sighs happily.*
Look how cute it is.
As you may have guessed, this dragon fandom had come to light because of the movie How To Train Your Dragon.
Well, I think it just needs to be said; we should not be training dragons. No. They are a special group of animals and should be left alone. If anything, dragons should be training us. I mean, they're the ones who can fly.
http://americajr.us/entertainment/DRA002.jpg
Just look at that little kid. You KNOW that he wants to be the one flying, but instead, he has to rely on poor Toothless. Plus, he also looks like he's about to lunge into the ocean if he doesn't pay close enough attention.
(By the by, I have yet to see this movie. I don't have a car or a license and my driver is in Chicago with her friend. Sigh.)
To sum this post up--Dragons are fantabulous.
However, I guess since this is primarily a blog about books and writing, I will add one philosphy tidbit, catered to you by a very wise, very philosophical fifteen year old and--
Hey. Stop laughing. I am mature. I am!
*sulks*
Well, there went the philosophy. I guess I can recommend a book.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEj1Sukq_gXMl65hRKvEYy6z4CUOo9d-7977IDMgu2NE7uUZCY8aPf2Vevb0reC-_vx2z-bts8Lf2Ef-eOJEN8X6dN3lJP3wKatPPFG0nU-nWIb0M9VGqNXTy1kuoXWsG0WtdzOOGbiBPQ/s400/voices+of+dragons.jpg
Not only does is have a pretty cover, it was pretty dang good. I particularly liked the ending; it all just FIT.
Anyway. I'm going to go dream about dragons.

See? The dude with the sword? He's totally taking lessons.

Warning: Girlyness shall ensue

I have a secret. It's seriously quite astonishing. In fact, it's down-right mind boggling.
You ready?
I may look fifteen. I may act fifteen. In fact, I probably even act older. The truth, though?
I'm secretly six and a half.
*Nods seriously.*
I get the feeling you aren't believing me. Maybe it's my grammar, or my spelling. I've got too tight a handle on that, right? No. See, no fifteen year old could get as jumpy and squealy over a Disney cartoon as I did about ten seconds ago.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1c/Rapunzel-Disney.jpg
Yes. That is, indeed, Rapunzel.
And yes. I will, indeed, go to see that in theaters.http://c0181321.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/PH9KL99hrFutce_1_m.jpg
Hehe. I love Princess movies. (Shut up. I can be six if I wanna.)
Even if they have changed the name to 'Tangled' in hopes that more guys will watch the movie. Apparently, you see, Princess and the Frog didn't make enough. (222 million. I wish that were a paltry sum in my book.)
Still. I'm more excited for Rapunzel than I was Princess and the Frog--not that I wasn't excited for that too.
http://www.accesshollywood.com/content/images/93/originals/93211_first-look-princess-and-the-frog.jpg
Sigh. I wanna be a Princess. I wanna have a pet Alligator. I'll pass on the creepy snake though.
Anyway. In order to fulfill my renewed childhood status, I'm off to play with my barbies and paint my nails with silvery sparkles.
...
Actually, I'm going to go watch American Idol.
...And yes. I'm going to watch American Idol while painting my nails with silvery sparkles.http://www.metroparkusa.com/media/dynamic/1258741955.65336.1.jpg
PRETTY!!
...
Ahem. If it makes it better, I'll also be doing Honors Geometry homework. I do, after all, have a brain.

....I take it back. Lord, just let me be six again.

Is it okay?

Fairy tales were the building blocks of my childhood. I can recite more stories about princess's, good hearted robbers, and talking animals than most people even knew existed. If you've read my blog for a while, you've probably seen the books I've posted that are spins of fairy tales.
It started with Disney, right? I mean, we all remember those. The Princess's, and the heroes, and the evil, evil bad guys. http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/2800000/Disney-Villains-ursula-2802530-890-900.jpg
Or girls, I guess. Evil doesn't discriminate.
The funny thing about that is, most of the Disney versions of fairy tales--arguably the most well known adaptations of classic tales--don't stick to the 'real' story. I mean, in the Grimm version of Cinderella (no pun intended) the step sisters mutilate their feet so they can fit into the glass slipper. In Beauty and the Beast, the dad is a jerk who gives up his daughter willingly.
Is it bad that they changed the story?
I don't think so. Disney's version of Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite. and as for Cinderella, I would have been one traumatized little kid to see cartoon characters start hacking off their feet.
Why do people get so angry, then, when stories are changed? I'm asking about this because of Alice in Wonderland; it's coming out tomorrow, right? Well, I was looking at reviews and stuff, and there are people who are ticked off that Tim Burton changed it so much.
Personally, I think it's kinda awesome.
People are mad that Alice is a 'champion' or a 'warrior.' Dude. Personally? How cool is that?!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4193281644_a024cc2cea_o.jpg
I would much rather spend two hours and change of my life checking out a new version of an old story than seeing the same story twice.
(Plus, you know...It just kinda looks awesome.)
What about any of you? Does it make you mad when you see old stories changed?

Checking in

I actually don't really have much to talk about. However, I'm mildly bored, so here goes.
Hmm.
Well. It's another snow day. This time, the phone rang at a reasonable hour so it's a little easier to enjoy.
I'm at the library again. I was actually going to go talk to one of the librarians, but I didn't think I was coming today, so I didn't mention it--and I really don't want to be that terrible person who shows up randomly. Oh well, I still might.
I'm reading this:

Which is actually kind of good. It's not techincally my favorite genre, but I'm weirdly attracted to it.
On another, more random note, I CANNOT WAIT For this movie!!
I'm sitting here watching the movie trailer and it looks
sooooo good. I cannot wait. I love that series.
Greek Mythology is amazing. I love books about it--that really is my favorite sort of genre.
I'm off to go stare at the trailer. The main guy looks remarkably like Zac Efron to me. . .

2009

Tonight marks 2010. The past ten years have seen me start school, make friends, lose friends, move from California to small but lovable hickville, learn to read and learn to write, get my heart broken and grow a strong addiction to glitter.
Example A--Well, just look up.
2009 was an especially lovely year.
It came with these:
http://eplteen.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/catching-fire.jpghttp://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/4400000/THE-LAST-OLYMPIAN-percy-jackson-and-the-olympians-books-4412157-800-1228.gifhttp://karinlibrarian.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/clare_glass.jpg
All of which are now on my favorite book list.
It came with these:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e308/creamgirl23/E_POSTER_NEW_MOON_.jpghttp://blog1.ebates.com/ebates/Harry%20Potter%20Merchandise.jpghttp://static.reelmovienews.com/images/gallery/avatar-movie-poster_353x529.jpg
And for me personally, it came with the end of my first year of highschool, the start of my querying agents, and this:
http://cdn1.ioffer.com/img/item/122/898/787/r7xm.jpg
As you know, a girl's purse is her best friend. A purse that can fit book? Well, that's a true BFF.
Anyway. 2009 was a good year. It's weird and strange that we're now entering the double digits. My entire life seems to be in the last decade. It was when the towers fell in 2001, when America entered a war, when the last Harry Potter came out and the start of a really cool cell phone.
However, 2010 isn't looking too shabby either. I mean with this stuff all coming out;http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/5700000/Eclipse-Poster-eclipse-movie-5727411-280-410.jpghttp://www.scholastic.com/thehungergames/images/cvrCatchingFire.jpghttp://jacketupload.macmillanusa.com/jackets/high_res/jpgs/9780312606169.jpg
2010 is bound to be good.
Anyway, this will be my last post of 2009. Happy New Years! Oh, and as a farewell present, I offer you this . . .
http://cdn.buzznet.com/media/jjr/headlines/2008/11/taylor-lautner-tire-swing.jpg
Because what would the end of the year be without a tribute to my shallow side?
Happy 2010, everyone.

Slowly becoming human again

NIn case you are not aware, high school can be very draining. Finals are particularly sapping. After several days of winter break, I'm suddenly feeling human though. I blame a huge bag of starburst and several seasons of Gilmore Girls for this reemergence into the species.
http://www.desktopexchange.com/gallery/albums/Television-Wallpapers/Gilmore_Girls.jpg
It's freakishly obsessive. Anyway, I apologize for post delays, AGAIN. I shall do better, promise.
My Christmas was good; I didn't post anything (blame this anti human streak. It's a very please-god-let-me-ace-my-finals way of life and doesn't leave much time for anything other than studying and the occasional working on my stories) but my Xmas was lovely. To quote Ron Weasely, it was good haul, plus I got to hang out with my family.
I also got this:

Which was very good. I got a lot of others, too, but that's the only one I'm actually finished with. Now it's my mission to steal Battle Royale from my sister.
So far, we have had snow several times here. It's great; we had a white Christmas. Well, the driving in snow part wasn't so great, but it was pretty. My dad, sister and I went to see Avatar a couple of days ago . . .
http://www.treehugger.com/avatar-navi-blue-photo2.jpg
For a movie about ten foot tall blue people, I found it amazing. It was pretty, it was deep and hey, there were even dragons.
Look! Dragons!
http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/zz7c491fa4-550x278.jpg
It was the kind of plot that you read about, actually, but think would never get translated to movie. Too controversial, maybe. Boring, perhaps. No one but nerds would go see it.
Well, I am a Class A nerd, but I have friends who aren't (shocker) who have loved it as well. The special effects, perhaps? Or--
Oh, I know.
The ten foot tall blue people.
More later.
